Discount air tickets have brought me from a European winter into South American summer, although it was fairly cool one, especially all the way down south. Before we reached Tierra del Fuego however, we have visited well known national parks Los Glaciares in Argentina and Tores del Paine in Chile.
Parque Nacional Los Glaciares
The first stop in Patagonia was in Los Glaciares national park, which boasts world-renown mountains as Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre, both very close to trailheads near town El Chaltén. The fame of these two huge rocks attracts lots of tourists but if you go a just bit further than the traditional routes, you can still enjoy quite a few beautiful quiet spots.
Torres del Paine
There was a large bush fire a month before our visit to this national park and large areas were subsequently closed down. Just when we were loosing hope we would be able to walk around its famous circuit and were about to turn back, the restrictions were lifted and so we eventually did manage to trek around the whole thing.
Tierra del Fuego
It takes some will power to set out on a trek in Ushuaia, the capital of Argentinian Tierra del Fuego, especially when the rain outside of a hostel turns into snow. Fortunately, we did have the will and were rewarded by more than acceptable conditions.
Beagle channel
We spent our last day in Tierra del Fuego on a commercial boat trip in Beagle channel to see its wildlife which is the local main attraction. The animals were cute, and the whole day was a very pleasant ending of our wonderful Patagonian trip.
